Knee Extensor Muscle. The knee extensor muscles play an important role in many movement activi- ties. The hamstring muscles at the back of the thigh consist of the biceps femoris semitendinosus and semimembranosus.
In humans certain muscles of the hand and foot are named for this function. The one muscle that extends the knee is the massive quadriceps. Pathology of the knee extensor muscle complex is well documented in aging orthopedic injury disease and disuse.
Extensor mechanism of the knee injuries.
The movement is usually directed backward with the notable exception of the knee joint. Such injuries are therefore incompatible with normal walking. Besides flexing the knee the hamstring muscles also extend the hip. The knee extensor muscles play an important role in many movement activi- ties.
